Why Hewescraft
Safety
First and foremost, all Hewescraft products are made by families for families. Safety is our top priority in the design, manufacture, and marketing of every product we offer. Safety is not the easy path or the cheap path, but it is the right path and our only path.
Flotation
Every Hewescraft, regardless of length, is designed and manufactured to float in the event of an emergency—if the boat is submerged or capsized. This is not a US Coast Guard or Transport Canada regulation on boats over 20 feet in length. This is our own standard. We are one of very few manufacturers in the entire industry, and the only one in the Pacific Northwest, engineering products to meet this standard.
US Coast Guard & Transport Canada
Every Hewescraft is designed and manufactured to exceed the US Coast Guard and Transport Canada. We never simply meet the bare minimum. We have outstanding relationships with both agencies, and we are committed to exceeding compliance requirements—it is simply the right thing to do.
ABYC
Every Hewescraft is designed and manufactured to meet the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards for all products. Adherence to ABYC standards is strictly voluntary, requiring a commitment to design, performance, and safety that goes well beyond government regulations.
Safety is not what Hewes Marine Company does to meet minimum requirements—it is simply who we are.
Function
After safety, this is the next concept championed in our mission statement. We strive to produce each Hewescraft so that it becomes the most useful tool to any angler.
Hewescraft’s lifetime warranty on every hull and weld assures that each boat will stand up to the tough paces that we know our boat owners put their boats through.

Well-thought-through fishing accessory locations, ergonomic driving positions, spacious seating and fishing cockpits, and massive fields of vision (provided by tall roof lines and big windows) all make for a fishing and boating experience that is the very definition of “ease of use.”
Sure, we also think we make a very pretty boat with clean lines that looks great running on step in any picture-postcard setting, but function is our real aim.
Value
In every class and size of boat in which we compete, we make sure to position each model at the peak of value.
The Hewescraft 180 Sportsman may not be the cheapest boat in the 18’-20’ fishing-runabout class, but it isn’t the most expensive either. It does, however, have the combination of size, features, and price that have made it the #1-selling Hewescraft for nearly three decades. Its value makes it, even today, the #1-selling model for the #1 PNW aluminum boat brand.
The Hewescraft 290 Adventure is not the cheapest boat in the 30’ “pocket cruiser” class, but it isn’t the most expensive either. It does, however, provide its owner with wood-trimmed luxury inside while smoothly taming tough seas with its rugged hull. It is a fishing platform with creature comforts that rival boats at twice the price. Its value is what has made it virtually “sold out” before each unit is completed and delivered.
Our safety and ruggedness have made the Hewescraft name legendary. Our ability to provide boats with the highest value have made us #1.
Manufacturing
The Hewes Marine Company is a boat manufacturer. Hewes Marine is not a boat builder, we are not a custom boat shop, we do not build one-offs, we do not improvise on-the-fly, and we do not make poorly crafted copies of other manufacturers products. Our boats are manufactured to ensure consistency and proven performance, boat after boat, year after year, to meet what our customers have come to love and expect. Our manufacturing expertise has allowed us to maintain a wide range of product families, and countless permutations of options, all designed, documented, and manufactured to the same consistent standards.
Hewes Marine owns and operates two separate facilities, both located within a half mile of each other in the small, rural town of Colville, WA, where the rugged beauty of our mountains, forests, and streams is only matched by the rugged beauty of the boats built here. Combined square footage from both facilities is in excess of 200,000 square feet.
Hewes Marine’s primary facility was designed and constructed specifically for manufacturing. This facility was recently modernized, with a wide variety of new, state-of-the art manufacturing equipment to accommodate Hewes Marine’s diverse product mix and commitment to continuous improvement.
Regardless of our world-class facility and state-of-the-art equipment, make no mistake…It’s all about the people.
Hewes Marine employs only the most talented and driven individuals in our community to work within our manufacturing department. Boats are not simple products, they take training, skill, and passion to manufacture well, boat after boat and year after year. That is why we put so much effort into our hiring process and take pride in our on-the-job training programs. The team leading this group is an incredibly experienced group of manufacturing professionals, each one with many years of direct manufacturing experience, in addition to years in leadership and experience in multiple manufacturing disciplines.

Engineering
Each product is researched, designed, engineered, and prototyped to produce a consistent, manufacturable product. There is no guess-work and no “over-engineering.” Hewes Marine has heavily invested in engineering over many years. Many boat builders claim their boats are engineered to be better than the rest, without ever having a genuine engineer set foot in their facilities.
All models are scrutinized and refined each year to continually improve products, designs, and styling. Many of those changes are driven by you, the customer! We cherish feedback from our loyal customer base and strive to make improvements suggested directly from the proving grounds on the water.
Hewes Marine’s engineering department is powered by a large team, made up of degreed engineers, degreed naval architects, degreed designers, and a small team of highly skilled and experienced master craftsmen, all operating under the mission of developing our products to be the safest, most durable, most ergonomic, best-value product in the market…period!
The safety, quality, and consistency of our products doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by design.
The Bottom Line
Our boats are a lifetime boat built by a lifetime company.
Our company does not compromise on the expense it takes to build a safe product.
The measure of a good boat is not how it performs when conditions are fair, the water is calm, and the sun is shining, but rather when conditions are poor, the water is rough, and you suddenly realize your life depends on your wits, your experience, and the boat brand between you and the water.
